YOUNG PROFESSIONAL AUXILIARY OF THE 100 BLACK MEN OF ATLANTA, INC.

Emerging 100 of Atlanta hosts 2nd Annual Police Interaction and Civil Rights Forum

On Friday, September 18, 2015, the Emerging 100 of Atlanta hosted its Second Annual Police Interaction Forum at the BEST Academy at Benjamin S. Carson (BEST Academy). This forum was presented to the Juniors and Seniors (ages 16-18) at BEST Academy and focused on important topics such as knowing your basic civil rights, how to properly interact with police officers, and the delicate balance that lies between knowing your basic civil rights and the application of that knowledge to police interactions.

“We are inundated with graphic images and videos of negative police interactions on a regular basis. In light of heightened media attention surrounding instances of police brutality across the country, often involving young black men, this forum was aimed at educating and empowering these young men with the tools necessary to successfully navigate all police encounters, be it a simple traffic stop, a street encounter, or something more serious,” President Tony C. Jones said.

WSB-TV covered the forum. WATCH IT HERE.
